Hold On Girl, Let Him Get “It” Through You

One of the ladies that purchased my new book sent me this message:

41741361_534729076976046_1561007573128183808_n

“So I’m sitting here reading and you have no idea the doors in my mind that your first chapter on fear has unlocked. Shenanigans WOMANNNN I love you so much I’m in tears!”

So often when we find ourselves facing hard seasons in our lives, we believe it’s a bad thing or because of something bad or wrong with us.  And we can even go so far as to believe that we are the only ones dealing with hard stuff.   The truth is, God could be trying to do a work through us.

One day, when I felt like I was mentally and emotionally at my lowest I heard the Holy Spirit say “If only God can get something through you”. I’ve held on to those words and since I released my book (This Is NOT My Life! 10 Steps to Overcoming Fear and Adversity) He has proven himself to be faithful! And when I receive messages like this, it just reminds me that God is using all of the pain I experienced during one of the hardest seasons of my life for a purpose greater than I could’ve ever imagined… And for that I am grateful!

Let this encourage you today, and serve as a reminder to Hold on girl! Let Him get it through you! Whatever the “it” may be in your life, let God get it through you!

For more encouragement, check out Brian Courtney Wilson’s song “A Great Work”. It has truly been an inspiration and blessing to me. It serves as a reminder of what God is doing in my life even when it doesn’t feel that way.

3 Questions Every Female Speaker Should Ask Herself Before Going On Stage

As a speaker, your visual presentation is JUST as important as your oral presentation and content!

With the number of speakers constantly on the rise, it’s important that when you go to speak at different engagements you not only provide great content to your audience but you do so in excellence ensuring you are looking the part!

I’ve compiled 3 questions every female speaker should ask herself BEFORE going on stage to ensure she not ONLY shows up…. but, that her visual presentation is on point allowing her to make a great and lasting impression!

1. What is the environment?? Casual, Creative or Corporate?

Know your environment

Knowing your environment will give you an idea on their style of dress and that will be your clue on how you dress. The last thing you want to do is show up underdressed at a corporate function or overdressed speaking to students. If you’re unsure visit their website for clues on their dress code.

2. Who’s my audience? CEO’s, Business Professionals, Students, Children?

Know your audience

People want to know that you can relate to them so it’s IMPERATIVE that you know EXACTLY who you’re talking to. You want to show up looking like you know what you’re talking about and looking the part. When booking your engagements ask the question What type of audience will I be speaking to? Do your research to ensure you can APPEAR relatable. Remember this is ALL about LOOKING the part!!

3. Am I overdoing it with makeup and accessories?

Less is more!

The goal is to look like yourself with a little more UMPH!! Your makeup should give you an evenly smooth complexion but you also want to look polished and NATURAL. Heavy overdone makeup can give off the wrong impression and too many accessories can be flashy and SUPER distracting. So be sure to keep it light…. Literally!

Asking yourself these 3 questions will point you in the right direction to ensuring you are presenting your entire self at your best!

Fear how did you get here?

Many times, fear begins as a thought, which is a seed that is planted in our subconscious mind because of our experiences, or something we’ve read or heard and believed about ourselves. The thing about it is that it doesn’t even need to be true. Just like a plant, all it needs is a seed and water and it will begin to grow roots.

Check out the interview below. In it, Roshonda Blackmon and I share how fear gained access into our lives and the ways we learned to address it.

Personal Responsibility, a VITAL key to freedom

How often have you found yourself thinking “If only this didn’t happen, my life would be so much better!”

Or maybe, there are times you find yourself talking about what someone has or hasn’t done, to or for you and how it has negatively impacted the course of your life.

I’m guilty of it too. There was a time where all I said was “If so and so did” and “Because I didn’t have something I needed in my early years, my life has now come to this.”

This is all a part of our human experience. It is so easy to point the blame and to relish is the wrongs that have been done to us but at some point, if we want to lead a better life, we have to take personal responsibility for where we are now and make better choices to be where we want to be in the future.

In the interview below I chat with Schan B. Ellis about the importance of taking personal responsibility for where you are. I even provide tips on HOW.

Check out the interview and let me know what you think in the comments.

Help! How do I prepare my look for my speaking engagements?

As the saying goes when you look good you feel good… When you show up knowing your visual presentation is on point you perform better. Your visual presentation is closely related to your confidence and if it is on point it will assist (alongside great content and oral presentation) with ensuring you have a stellar performance.

Here are 3 tips to preparing your look for a speaking engagement

1. Have a clear vision of the look you’re going for and how you want to be perceived
Indecision will make you feel confused, frustrated and uncomfortable in your clothes. This will undoubtedly have a negative impact on your performance. It’s ok if you don’t immediately know the exact makeup/ outfit choices that you need to pull your entire look off but start preparing by at least getting an idea of the look you want.

2. Ensure your ideal makeup look is natural and complements your skin tone and outfit
Heavy or improperly matched makeup can be distracting and will take all the attention off what you say and place it on how you look. Make sure your foundation application is natural and that your makeup as a whole enhances your best features.

3. Hire help
Some speakers, coaches and women of influence in general struggle in this area because they either believe their visual appearance doesn’t matter or they refuse to get help thinking its unnecessary. Truth is… it’s necessary. We live in a society where 1st impressions determine how people perceive you. You want to be perceived as your BEST! There is an expert that can answer any question you may ever have including on how to present yourself successfully. Don’t be afraid to hire one that you can learn from, feel comfortable and grow with.

If you need help with enhancing your visual presentation contact me here and let’s schedule a one on one consultation to discuss your needs!

Putting your best face forward

There’s nothing worse than not having the time to look your best everyday!! Who enjoys or even wants to go out when they’re not 100% comfortable with their looks. Whether it’s your clothes, makeup or hair as women looking good is what we do. Here are 3 tips to ensuring you put your best face forward every day!!

1.       Plan your look the night before

Whether you have small children or love to sleep in, trying to prep in the morning can be the most daunting task of them all. This will cause you to opt for anything just to get out of the house in time. Do yourself a favor… Plan your look in advance. There’s a saying that goes a little something like this… “Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance”.. And so it goes even with how we step out the house.

 2.       Alarms are your friend

Set an alarm that warns you when it’s almost time to go. I have an alarm set to ring about 15 mins before I have to leave my house. Not only to keep me on track and moving at a rate that will ensure I’m on time, but also to keep my daughter on track.

3.       Simplify your makeup routine

Make sure that your makeup routine is simple but still enhances your beauty. Choose your favorite features and enhance them instead of trying to glam it all at once. If you’re an entrepreneur or corporate professional less is really more.  Save the highlight and contour for evenings or weekends when you have more time.

There you have it!! 3 simple tips to ensure you can put your best face forward everyday.  Share your tips in the comments below!!

Yes you can be foundation free!!

Many times we think we can’t look fabulous if we leave the house without a full face of makeup.  The truth this that’s a LIE!

I’ve mastered the art of stepping out foundation free and still look fabulous!

Here’s how

1. Maintain healthy skin

Healthy skin is a necessity, makeup is a choice! It always helps when you go foundation free. Create a daily routine and stick to it!

2. Focus on what matters most

Eyebrows- They shape your face

Eyelashes- They make your eyes pop

Wearing lipstick- makes your look at little fancier

3. Add accessories

Throwing on a pair of shades or specks will take the focus from your bare skin and enhance your look with a little personality.

So there you have it! Simple tips to go shamelessly bare faced! If you have any tips to add comment below!

Simplify your life!

Today, I wanted to share some practical ways that we can simplify our lives, avoid distractions and frustrations by prioritizing.

We live in a world that advises us to hustle and to do a gazillion things to get a head. These things can not only become distractions but they can seriously cause us to lose sight of priorities and cause unnecessary problems in our lives.

In order to simplify our lives we have to determine what things in our lives are activites and what things are priorities.

In Luke 10:41-42 Martha chose to make being a good hostess a priority but her sister Mary made sitting at Jesus feet and hearing what He had to say her priority. When Martha became frustrated (she was totally distracted and focused on the wrong things) and asked Jesus to check Mary for not helping her Jesus responded “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her”

So what did Mary do that made her able to relax and keep it simple??

Made God and the things of God her priority

Sitting and learning from Jesus was more important to her than running around and being a good hostess.

The truth is without the presence of God nothing we attempt will be fruitful anyway. We should make it a habit to pray daily, seek guidance/direction 1st before moving throughout the day. Once we make being in God’s presence a priority we can make it a habit to live in His peace.

Today I am challenging you to make a list of activities and then make a separate list of priorities. This week be sure to put the priorities before the activities and watch how God moves in your life. I’m challenging myself too!!!
