Help! How do I prepare my look for my speaking engagements?

As the saying goes when you look good you feel good… When you show up knowing your visual presentation is on point you perform better. Your visual presentation is closely related to your confidence and if it is on point it will assist (alongside great content and oral presentation) with ensuring you have a stellar performance.

Here are 3 tips to preparing your look for a speaking engagement

1. Have a clear vision of the look you’re going for and how you want to be perceived
Indecision will make you feel confused, frustrated and uncomfortable in your clothes. This will undoubtedly have a negative impact on your performance. It’s ok if you don’t immediately know the exact makeup/ outfit choices that you need to pull your entire look off but start preparing by at least getting an idea of the look you want.

2. Ensure your ideal makeup look is natural and complements your skin tone and outfit
Heavy or improperly matched makeup can be distracting and will take all the attention off what you say and place it on how you look. Make sure your foundation application is natural and that your makeup as a whole enhances your best features.

3. Hire help
Some speakers, coaches and women of influence in general struggle in this area because they either believe their visual appearance doesn’t matter or they refuse to get help thinking its unnecessary. Truth is… it’s necessary. We live in a society where 1st impressions determine how people perceive you. You want to be perceived as your BEST! There is an expert that can answer any question you may ever have including on how to present yourself successfully. Don’t be afraid to hire one that you can learn from, feel comfortable and grow with.

Be SMART not envious!!

We tend to look at people and assume their process has been overnight or that they are in a better position than we are but the truth is we only get a glimpse of their highlight reel.

Don’t envy where someone else is!!

You don’t know how much has been given and how long it has taken for them to get to where they are.

Be SMART!! Take notes.. Anyone in a position higher than you can become your inadvertent teacher, someone you are able to learn from.

With Love,

Inspiration|Tag… You’re it!!

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Proverbs 18:10 NIV

As I read this scripture I had a flash back into my childhood.

I remembered playing tag as a child. We would choose the biggest rock in the middle of the complex to be “base” and then we’d choose someone to be “it”. That person would count and then come chasing after us all, trying to lay hands on anyone they could. If you were caught then you were it but, if you made it to base you were guaranteed safety. You were untouchable!! Most times, once you hit base the one that was “it” wouldnt even come near you because they knew you were safe on that rock.

As I meditated on that scripture I realized the similarities in that game, my life and how today Christ is that rock for me and many others.
As I continued to roll it around in my head the word “righteous” stuck out to me. It was as if I had gotten the basics, but RIGHTEOUS was the key word.

So what does righteous mean??
Basically it’s living your life according to the word of God, Living Gods way….

Many times we skip over “Righteous”. Maybe we don’t really understand what it means, or righteous living isn’t something were ready for, but we’ll have to get ready because according to the Word, those are the ones the promise is for.

“the RIGHTEOUS run to it and are safe”

So many things are constantly after us. Our past, addictions, negative mindsets, fears, exes (They’re bad too girl 😂). They don’t want to just “tag” us out they want to TAKE US OUT!! They want us to give up on our dreams our faith AND our life! But no matter how much they chase us we have ALWAYS have a BASE to run to. With Christ we are guaranteed safety. We are UNTOUCHABLE!!

If you don’t have a personal relationship with Him, I encourage you to receive Him today. Confess Him as your Lord and Savior and ask Him to enter your life today. You’ll be glad you did!!

The Power of Influence

If you don’t mind I’m going to be transparent for a few and chat with my sisters about the power of influence.influence

One morning, while getting a ride from my friend to work, as we were chatting I was scrolling through FB and I saw the word ZEN. So I said “Drik, what exactly does Zen mean?” She said meditating or something like that. I said “oh”… and I as I sat there and thought about Zen a thought jumped in my mind and it sounded like “As Christians we don’t believe in that”. Immediately I realized that that was an idea I had always thought because that’s what I was told. The very next thing that came to mind were a few other beliefs I had and how those too were things I believed because it’s what I was told. Instantly I started to get a little uneasy because several ideas and views that I had adopted played in my mind and they all had 1 thing in common… They were all views I had because of what I was told.

So I got to work and it was still heavy on my heart because now, I’ve realized that not only could I have been living a lie but I recognized that a lot of my ideas and views up until that moment had been created through the influences in my life and whether or not it was true it was true to them and had been true to me because I believed it and didn’t even attempt to challenge its validity.

So I’m at work listening to my favorite worship music and I felt it in my spirit…. The power of influence and the importance of your circle. As I felt that thoughts started to come and I made a decision right there that something had to change!!

I realized that my views about life, my life and other people all stemmed from the opinions and thoughts of others. I began to see how although I KNEW God had greater plans for me and that there was more to life for me I allowed myself to be stuck. I was stuck in someone else’s “box”. Handicapped from moving forward in my own truth because I was too stuck in theirs. See the truth is those that I surrounded myself with didn’t have the same dreams as me. They didn’t see what I saw, feel what I felt or even believe what I believed. I believed there was more for me…. They couldn’t see that for themselves.

See when I was ready to move forward in my dream those influencers would say things like “Girl you know they say” and in my mind I’d wonder who was they?? And why did I care what they had to say? Because the truth is I only care about what HE says.  But those “They say Nay-sayers” had a hold on me and what I believed.

That day in the car I had a revelation and it all began with the word Zen… Zen led me to see the power of influencers, the need to release my mind from them and to the importance of my circle. As I sat there at my desk I wrote “surround yourself with people that influence you to be you. People that encourage you to think for yourself and foster your own opinions. People that challenge you and hold you accountable. Not the “They say  Nay-sayers” Why does what they say matter?? Pray for discernment and revelation.”

So my sister.. I ask you.. Who have you allowed to influence you? Who are the “They say Nay-sayers” in your life?? Surround yourself with people that influence you to be you. People that encourage you to think for yourself and foster your own opinions. People that challenge you and hold you accountable. Not the “They say  Nay-sayers”  Honestly, why does what they say matter?? Pray for discernment and revelation. Ask God to reveal any negative influences to you, and then ask for the strength to release your mind from “their box.” Your circle is important to the next level in your life and your destiny awaits you.

A BIG mistake I’ve been making

I like to consider myself a realist when it comes to a lot of things.

Then there is that part of me that loves to dream. About my future and how much my life will change… Soon!

But I HAVE to be honest with myself… And as much as I hate to admit it….  I am NOT a celebrity…. Yet (speaking it into existence)

But, when it comes to how we see and present ourselves we tend to compare ourselves to other. Not just regular others either.. Celebrity others!

Like, I may do a awesome makeup tutorial and see a well known YouTuber and totally discredit myself and my work because hers is so much better than mine.  Silly I know but I’ve recognized that I am not the only woman that does that.

Comparison is a super big confidence killer!!

The thing is.. I am a real woman working hard to reach my goals. I haven’t gotten to that status yet so how can I compare myself to someone that has?? Honestly, We are not yet on the same level.

It’s unfair to me for me to do that!

SOOO I’ve decided that I will no longer compare myself to others but instead I will embrace where I am and my journey and continue to grow into all God has created me to be. No bigger slap in Gods face then to wish to be where someone else is… Right??!!

I’m keeping my eyes on my own makeup! images5A5A7LEQ

So I have a question for you.. Who are you comparing yourself to?

Have any tips on avoiding comparisons?? Comment  below

Confidence is KEY

Hi Beauties!

Confidence is key when it comes to being successful at any thing  in life…

Whether you want a promotion at work,a new house or even to learn how to do your own makeup, BELIEVING that you can actually do it is major.

Most times we set goals that we don’t necessarily believe we can accomplish, we doubt ourselves so much that we finally give into a mindset of defeat. Once we get to defeatville getting out seems as impossible as meeting the goal.

Trust me I’ve been there all too many times, however, I have chosen and will continue to choose confidence everyday! Confidence in my abilities as a Makeup Artist, Beauty Educator, and an influencer to women every where.

Everyday I don’t FEEL that way but my choice to be confident allows me to move forward regardless.

So what are you wanting to do but lack the right mindset to actually do it? What area of your personal life do you need to give yourself a confidence check and boost??
